Prayer for the Next Generation
We believe God is doing something in this generation.
Across our Catalyst family, we are seeing young people encounter Jesus, respond to His call and discover what it means to live wholeheartedly for Him. We have been encouraged not only by what God is doing in the next generation, but by the way young people themselves are responding to His invitation.
This summer, thousands of young people gathered at the Norfolk Showground for Newday, joining hundreds of churches from across the UK and Europe for a week of worship, teaching, community and fun. They camped together, built friendships, encountered God and left with their faith strengthened and their relationship with Jesus deepened.
And we have much to celebrate. Newday 2026 saw 370+ salvations, 97 recommitments to Jesus and 314 reported healings.
We give thanks to God for every young person who encountered Him and for every story of hope, healing and faith.
Many from across the Catalyst family were also involved throughout the week. Phil and Carole Wilthew led Drenched, helping young people explore baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. Joel Kendall encouraged young people to develop a heart for the nations through his mission sessions, while Chris and Lisa Mason led Discover, exploring what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and follow Him wholeheartedly.
But our response cannot simply be to celebrate what God is doing. We want to pray for this generation and ask God to continue to draw them to Himself.
At Catalyst Festival this year, we were particularly encouraged to see young people praying for the next generation. We also heard a powerful challenge from Alecs Atkinson, a worship leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team at King’s Community Church.
Watch Alecs' message:
Speaking from Jesus’ parable of the pearl of great price in Matthew 13:45–46, Alecs asked whether we are willing to give it all for Jesus — to rediscover the pearl of great price, recognise the cost and ask God to reveal what we need to lay down.
The message was followed by a time of ministry, particularly for those in Gen Z who wanted to respond to the call to be “all in” with Jesus.
There is something significant when a generation chooses to surrender their lives to Jesus. But there is also something significant when the generations before them choose to pray, make room, encourage and invest in them.
So, as we celebrate what God is already doing, let’s pray for the next generation.
Let’s pray that young people across our churches would encounter Jesus for themselves. That they would know the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. That they would discover the worth of Jesus and choose to follow Him wholeheartedly.
Let’s pray for courage to lay down whatever holds them back, and for faith to say yes when Jesus calls.
Let’s pray for young leaders to be raised up, equipped and released. For young people to discover their gifts, find their place in the church and carry the good news of Jesus into their schools, universities, workplaces, communities and the nations.
And let’s pray for ourselves — that we would be a church that believes in the next generation, creates space for them, listens to them, learns from them and faithfully passes on what we have received.
God, would you meet this generation?
Would you reveal Jesus to them?
Would you fill them with your Spirit and give them courage to live wholeheartedly for you?
Raise up a generation who know the worth of the pearl, who are willing to give it all for Jesus and who will carry the good news of the Kingdom into their generation and beyond.
