Andy Johnston, one of our Catalyst Hub Leaders, has written a new biography of Terry Virgo, founder of the Newfrontiers family of churches, of which Catalyst is part.

Building God’s House: A Life of Terry Virgo, published in 2026, follows Terry’s journey from his early years in Sussex through six decades of church leadership and ministry.

For the book, Andy spoke with Terry and Wendy Virgo, as well as members of their family, friends and people who have worked alongside them over the years. Their stories help to bring together an account of Terry’s life, leadership and the development of Newfrontiers.

The book looks at the early years of the movement, the growth of churches across the UK and internationally, and some of the key moments that shaped its journey. It also explores the personal experiences behind this story, including the challenges, decisions and relationships that were part of Terry and Wendy’s years of ministry.

For those of us who are part of Catalyst today, the story of Newfrontiers is part of our own history. Catalyst grew out of the Newfrontiers family, and many of the relationships, values and convictions that shaped those early years continue to be part of who we are today.

Andy’s book gives us an opportunity to learn more about Terry’s journey and the story of the churches and people connected to it.
